The #1 selling item on this list dwarfs the rest by a magnitude of 4. Here is the description which might give you a clue as to why it went so high: Gold Star Medal of Hero of the Soviet Union, #5324, with Hero's ID (small certificate/diploma for the Title of Hero of the Soviet Union). USSR. WW2. Awarded to Gontar Konstantin Mikhailovich in November 1944 for action in Karelia and Norway.

You wouldn't think that a helmet could beat the Luftwaffe but when checking on sold auctions from eBay the results are in. The top 3 selling items were all vintage helmets with the #1 issue selling for upwards of $3k.

Its not often that an auction jumps over $1,00o+ in less than 10 seconds. However, when you have two monster snipes come in on top of each other that is what happens. The #1 selling item had that bidding pattern and was one of the best items that sold recently in the category. The pair of 509th patches sold for almost the exact price but were won by different bidders. The pilot's wings saw 10 bids in the last few hours of the auction including three that too it over $1k.

Would you believe all of these great knives sold in the last week on eBay? The two top selling items were strong enough to go for over $2500. The bottom half of this Top-5 list was not as strong but even the low man on the totem pole sold for over $600.

Three bidders came up to the plate and were willing to spend $1500 or more on the bombsight. That was the lead off item for this run down of the best USA equipment in the WWII category. In fact every item included in this Top-5 list from last week sold for $1k or more. The crazy thing is if you take a close look at the #5 item I just can't fathom that it brought that kind of money. Anybody care to comment on that auction?
