Flying Squadrons of WWII

This list of Top 5 items from WWII on eBay includes a couple of squadron patches that have some history to tell. The USMC Night Fighters patch is a beauty. The VMF-N-532 was one of the few Marine air squadrons during the war. The need for this type of resource became apparent during the Battle of Guadalcanal when the Navy was unable to successfully attack Japanese aircraft carriers at night. The VMF squadron flew planes that featured radar equipped aircraft, ground based radar and personnel that provided Ground-controlled interception (GCI). The F4U Corsair was a primary plane flown and was based on carriers. The 14th Air Commando Squadron is really more of a post war group that makes a name for itself in the Vietnam conflict. Operations included close and direct air support, interdiction, combat airlift, aerial resupply, visual and photographic reconnaissance, unconventional warfare, counterinsurgency operations, psychological warfare (including leaflet dropping and aerial broadcasting), forward air control operations and escort, search and rescue, escort for convoy and defoliation operations, flare drops, civic actions, and humanitarian actions. Be sure to click on these auction so you can see the items up close - they are worth it!
