Its been a long while since I've seen an auction go from $9.99 to over $3k with just five bids! But that type of acceleration is just what happened with this weeks #1 selling item in the German subcategory of WWII. The M-42 helmet saw a similar skyrocketing price when it went from a starting bid of $25 to sell for over $2700. This Top-5 list also features a pair of really interesting knives and a pair of binoculars that did really well. Part of the story there is that the auction included lots of other accessories that made it more attractive for the bidders. The interesting piece of disparity between the top selling blades is that one only received a single bid while the other saw some great old action ringing in 49 bids.

I don't think I've ever seen a single WWII patch go on eBay as high as the 501st Airborne patch did last week on eBay. When you consider that an it beat out several other nice pieces in this top-5 list you know its strong. How strong? Click to see the final price but let's just say it was north of $2k! I had the patch blanket as the featured item in last week's Hot Finds email and was glad to see it eclipsed the thousand dollar mark in heavy bidding. It will be a real treasure for the collector who brought it home. The "Devil's Brigade" patch didn't do too shabby either considering it was missing the pins that would have been affixed to the patch.

It looks like the thousand dollar club for WWII uniforms is a "Jacket" only organization. While researching sold items on eBay from the last week I came across these five jackets that all sold for over $1k. Its interesting that the majority of them sold with one bid - some in a buy-it-now format offering. The two items that did see some competitive bidding were US bomber jackets.

Whether its daggers, swords, bayonets, or machetes - there are always great selling edged weapons in the WWII category of eBay. For this post I went back over the last week of closed items to find examples from several different countries that sold for over $1,000+. Truth be told you could fill up a page just with Japanese blades that match that description. However, I wanted to included some diversity so I researched the category to find some great examples to broaden the post.

I grew up watching Hogan's Heroes and I'm sure many others have watched the reruns countless times. The commander of Stalag 13 Colonel Klink has his most treasured possession: a World War I spiked Pickelhaube helmet on his office desk. So while we don't know if he was much of a collector he might appreciate these top-5 items from the German subcategory of WWII.
