In putting together this Top-5 list I had to cut out items that also ranked in the Top-5 for the entire WWII category. Using those guidelines you can still find 5 items that sold last week in the United States subcategory that scored over $1,500 in bidding on eBay. The lead-off man is an A-2 jacket in excellent shape. The pilot spent some time in the China/Burma theater based on the seller description. But the real interesting sale was the M3 knife. This auction was sitting at $1,000 with thirty seconds to go when things got crazy. Within the last 1/2 minute of the auction sniper bids came in from 8(!) different bidders which doubled the sale price and landed this as the #2 item on this list. The USMC pin proved that its always good to have an insurance bid coming in over the top. The winning bidder was sitting pretty when a sniper bid came in $750 above his bid. However, following the old Scout adage to "Be Prepared" he had his own snipe locked and loaded that carried the day.

I don't think I've ever seen a single WWII patch go on eBay as high as the 501st Airborne patch did last week on eBay. When you consider that an it beat out several other nice pieces in this top-5 list you know its strong. How strong? Click to see the final price but let's just say it was north of $2k! I had the patch blanket as the featured item in last week's Hot Finds email and was glad to see it eclipsed the thousand dollar mark in heavy bidding. It will be a real treasure for the collector who brought it home. The "Devil's Brigade" patch didn't do too shabby either considering it was missing the pins that would have been affixed to the patch.

It looks like the thousand dollar club for WWII uniforms is a "Jacket" only organization. While researching sold items on eBay from the last week I came across these five jackets that all sold for over $1k. Its interesting that the majority of them sold with one bid - some in a buy-it-now format offering. The two items that did see some competitive bidding were US bomber jackets.

This blog entry features the top selling items last week in the WWII subcategory for United States on eBay. One lesson that these items demonstrate is that a story with documentation can exponentially increase the value of a collectible. Would you have thought that the Case V-44 knife would sell for over $10k? If not you need to click over and read the history of this particular piece. Moving on to the bomber jacket lot - it isn't so surprising that this group of items did so well. It might surprise you to know the seller starting the bidding at .99! Every auction featured here sold for north of $1k so click the link and check them out.

This list represents the top selling items in the United States subcategory of WWII on eBay. As usual this category gets top heavy with uniforms and flight/bomber jackets leading the charge. Last week on eBay the top selling items included four such auctions with the paratrooper helmet the only piece of gear to break out. What made the navy jacket rise to the top was the seller did a great job of explaining the signficance of the piece. Turns out it belonged to an Aviation Radio Man 2nd Class making it a rare enlisted flight jacket.
