Earlier I did a Top-5 post for blades from the American subcategory of WWII on eBay so a natural follow- up is to reach into the basket of closed auctions in the Germany subcat and do the same. One thing that jumps out at you about these edged weapons is that they were all very competitive auctions. Fifteen bids was on the low end in this group and that is ALOT for the WWII category. Click the links to see what these auctions did and for better pictures and descriptions.

If my math is right the Luftwaffe jacket in the #1 spot today increased by 1000% from its opening bid. I guess that takes some guts from the seller but thirty bids will go a long way to making things work out well for him. In fact that was not the only auction in this top selling group that started off at $1. The same is true for the #2 German Airforce jacket and #4 WW2 Luftwaffe Jacket. The Red Cross tunic sold as a best offer/BIN listing and was discounted about 40% from the asking price of $999. All told these are some great WWII pieces.

The Top 5 listings from last week in the WWII Germany category of eBay sold in a pretty tight range. The top auction here and the #5 auction are only separated by $1,000. That similarity in sales price was the result of very different bidder action. The #1 paratrooper helmet, #2 gun scope and #5 album were all competitive auctions that had very reasonable or even cheap minimum bids. The #3 listing sold as a best offer for $2125 which was a $375 discount from the asking price. The concentration camp shoes sold as a buy-it-now for the asking price of $1850. The selling strategy on eBay that involves listing an item as buy-it-now or best offer is pretty clever when you think about it. Essentially, it lets the element of haggling come into the eBay marketplace and who doesn't love to do some horse swapping when it comes to your collection? In the case of the German items that I've featured below the best offer sealed the deal. So how much of a discount can you get the seller to give you? Well according to my math these five items sold for an average of 71% of the stated BIN price. The lowest any of them sold was for 60% of the asking price and the highest was 84%. So the next time you see the option to buy-it-now or best offer take my advice and ask for a 25% discount and more than likely you will have a deal. Click on these to see what they eventually sold for.

The German category is the 2nd largest on the USA eBay site and this summer there were many noteworthy auctions that sold. This group represents some that stand out. I don't see many concentration camp uniforms up for bids and its not surprising that many of those don't survive over sixty years later. You probably aren't surprised to see a Kriegsmarine binocular or Luftwaffe jacket made the cut.
