Among the best selling items from the war are the great American flight jackets. Some of these examples are real classics with hand painted artwork and provenance. The high number of bids seen here is not that surprising considering how nice the items are. Click the links to see what the bidding got up to.

Last week on eBay the top five auctions in the USA subcategory included three blades which strikes me as a bit unusual. However, the fact that two flight jackets also made the list doesn't seem out of place at all. The #1 auction started off at just $9.99 but after 22 bids closed at $2700. A very close 2nd place was the Marine bowie knife that started at $100 and nearly crossed the finish line ahead of the A2 jacket. The exception to all this great bidding in the auction format was the V-42 Stiletto which came out with a very high minimum bid and got that bid to sell for over two grand. Not a bad top 5 considering that every item sold for more than 2k.

Its a little ironic when antiques from a war trigger a real war (among bidders). But that' s just what happened with these five auctions that sold last week on eBay. In each example more than 35 bids came in by the time the gavel fell. Now typically, you see this when the auction comes down to just two characters bidding against each other in increments of $10-$20 trying to top each other out. However, it does look like an impressive tally when you see what kinds of results these tit-for-tat bidding patterns can bring. Click on these listings and if you want on the "bid history" to see what happened in each case.

Usually in the WWII Hot Finds I post listings that include the real gritty memorabilia that you usually think of with war. So while there is plenty of soldier gear on eBay sometimes you can miss some of the more interesting pieces that are a little unusual. Paper items like photographs, books, and mixed lots are also popular items that collectors chase down. I've got five examples below that are unique and worth a quick look. They all sold last week on eBay and went for a pretty good penny.

It seems like one of the classic pieces of collectibles that will never go out of vogue is the flight jacket. A quick check of recent eBay auctions revealed two very different jackets that did well. You might be surprised to see how much the paratrooper jump pants went for after registering 12 bids.
