Russian Auctions – “Lot” of Good Stuff

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

How confident does a seller have to be to start a group of very nice WWII collectibles at .99?  Well in the case of the 5 Top selling auctions in the Russian subcategory that is exactly what happened in three cases.  The top selling item is explained in the description by the seller, "Highest national decoration of the Soviet Union. Established 6 April 1930. Awarded to civilians for outstanding services rendered to the State, to members of the armed forces for exemplary service, and to recipients of the titles of Hero of the Soviet Union and Hero of Socialist Labor. Also awarded to factories, cities, regions, and republics. Originally, this award was very highly regarded."

$18k Worth of Sharp Auctions

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

One of the more popular areas of collecting in WWII is edged weapons.  While everyone is used to seeing Japanese swords sell for thousands of dollars I want to shine some light across the board.  So for this blog post I went back into the last week of sales in the category and looked for the top selling blades with one caveat.  I only took one from the Japanese subcat.  Giving those factors I found five listings that reach sold for a minimum of $1000 and on total sold for more than $18 thousand.  In fact the 1944 commando knife was the top selling item in the entire WWII category last week!

WWII Bidding Wars – 50 or More Qualify

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

What you usually find in a bidding war that pushes over 50 bids is that there is a lot of incremental action going on.  These are auctions that are not won by snipers.  They have somebody sitting at their computer trying to top the other guy out $5 at a time.  That would certainly appear to be the case with some of these auctions which I spotted on eBay.  All of these auctions sold for more than $100 with one of them going for more than $800.  Can you figure out which one?
